Priest, nuns among 10 held in Wayanad as holy mass violates lockdown
Wayanad: A group of 10 persons, including a priest and nuns, were arrested by police for conducting holy mass by violating lockdown here in the district on Sunday. The lockdown was violated in Missionaries of Faith Minor Congregation in Mananthavadi.
The arrest was made because the prayer was conducted in a way that was conducive for the transmission of coronavirus.
The incident happened on Sunday morning at 8. The police reached the spot after getting to know about the prayer. The vicar Fr. Tom Joseph, his assistant vicar Fr. Prince, Brother Santhosh, Sisters Santhosha Nithya, Mary John, Students at the congregation Anjela, Subin, Mithun were arrested.
They have been let out on bail. Police said that they will be charged as per Epidemic Diseases Ordinance Act 2020.
The arrest was made by a team of police officers led by Manandavadi Circle Inspector M. M. Abdul Karim and Sub inspector C. R. Anil.
