Police woman hacked, burnt alive by cop in Alappuzha
Alappuzha: In a disturbing incident, a woman police officer returning home from work was knocked down from her scooter, hacked down and burnt alive by another police officer at Vallikkunnam in Mavelikkara here on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Soumya Pushpakaran (31), a Civil Police Officer (CPO) attached to the Vallikkunnam station.
The accused, identified as Ajas (33), an officer attached to Aluva traffic police station, sustained 50 per cent burns in the incident. He was caught and is undergoing treatment under police custody.
On Saturday afternoon, Soumya had returned home after appearing for secretariat assistant examination and was heading to her family home on her two-wheeler around 3.30 pm. When she was near the family house, a car driven by Ajas knocked her off the scooter. Ajas then stepped out of the car wielding a machete and moved towards Soumya.
On seeing this, the policewoman ran into the premises of a nearby house. Ajas chased and hacked her down. He then poured petrol over her and set her ablaze. Soumya reportedly died on the spot. Ajas sustained 50 per cent burns in the incident.
Soumya is a mother of three and her husband is working abroad. Ajas is unmarried. It is learned that Ajas and Soumya knew each other. Ajas was reportedly on leave since June 9.
Soumya’s body will be taken to a hospital after police and forensic officials collects evidence and holds inquiry at the spot. Investigations are on to find the motive behind the murder.
