Police draws flak as Thrissur district reports 8 murders in 12 days
Thrissur: Reoccurring murders has caused anxiety among the locals in Thrissur district. Eight people were killed in different areas of Thrissur in the last 12 days. The latest murder took place in Pazhayannur on Monday. This is the second murder that has taken place in Pazhayannur within one week.
Ottappalam native Rafeeq was hacked to death on Monday, while his friend Fasil suffered injuries in the attack. Fasil is undergoing treatment at a hospital. They were both living in a rented house near Pazhayannur.
Most of the murder are caused by gang rivalries. In the past, these attacks used to take place only at night, however, now criminals do not hesitate to attack and murder people in broad daylight.
It was only a few days back that a youth was hacked to death in Anthikkad after a vehicle was slammed into his car. The accused in the Anthikkad murder case includes a youth who is suffering from serious spinal cord issues.
Although police have been able to nab the accused soon after the attack, it has to be noted that they are unable to prevent such attacks from happening again and it is a severe lapse. The death of a remand prisoner while in police custody has brought disrepute to the Home Ministry also.
October 1 - Custodial death of Shemeer
The first murder was that of Thiruvananthapuram native Shemeer, while he was in remand custody. The post mortem report stated that the death was caused by a blow to the head. Reports suggest that jail workers attacked him at a hostel in Thrissur, where arrested people were made to stay for COVID testing. Four jail workers have been accused in the case.
October 4 - Dr. Sona murdered
Kuthattukkulam native Dr. Sona, a dentist by profession, was stabbed by her friend on September 28. She succumbed to her injuries a few days later. The friend, Mahesh, has been arrested by police. The murder was caused by arguments relating to financial transactions between the two.
October 4 - CPM worker Sanoop hacked to death
CPM Puthussery branch secretary PU Sanoop was hacked to death near Kunnamkulam. Police report suggested that the murder was caused by personal issues. CPM alleged that it was a political murder. Police report denies the role of politics in the murder.
October 6 - Rajesh murdered
Rajesh, who was living in a rented house with his friend, was found dead a few days back. His friend Arun was arrested on October 8. It is reported that the murder was caused by arguments over cooking.
October 7 - POCSO case accused hacked to death
Thirumani Satheesh, a POCSO case accused, was found dead near his neighbor’s house. His friend Sreejith was arrested by police in connection with the case. The murder was reportedly a result of personal enemity.
October 9 - Man on morning walk stabbed to death
Ollur native Sasi was stabbed to death on September 29 while he was on a morning walk. Police said that the murder was the fallout of a dispute regarding the pet dog.
October 10 - Anthikkad murder
A youth, Nidhin, was hacked to death in Anthikkad after a vehicle was slammed into his car. Nidhin was the eighth accused in Anthikkad Adarsh murder case. Three accused have been taken into custody.
October 12 - Rafeeq hacked to death
Ottappalam native Rafeeq was hacked to death on Monday, while his friend Fasil suffered injuries in the attack. Fasil is undergoing treatment at a hospital. They were both living in a rented house near Pazhayannur. It is reported that Rafeeq is an accused in Marijuana pedelling and selling cases.
