Perumbavoor native controls gold smuggling in India
Kochi: Gold smuggling in the entire country is overseen by middlemen led by a native of Perumbavoor here in Ernakulam district. The gang led by the Keralite smuggled gold worth a whopping Rs 1,473 crore in the last two years.
The shocking information was revealed in ‘Perumbavoorile Swarnna Rajakanmar’ (Gold Kings of Perumbavoor) a series of investigations held by Mathrubhumi News.
Perumbavoor native Nissar Aliyar and his gang, which allegedly have international links, is behind the smuggling. The gang smuggles gold in the name of scrap brass. Mathrubhumi News received a copy of the report from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in this regard.
A team of DRI officials had arrested Nissar Aliyar and gang with gold bars weighing 185 kilograms from Mumbai on March 29. The gold was worth Rs 60 crore. Following the arrest, DRI held investigations in Mumbai and Perumbavoor which revealed the shocking information.
The investigations revealed that Perumbavoor natives were controlling gold smuggling in the country. Even the central government was shocked to learn about the information.
Nissar Aliyar is known as Nissar Bhai, Nana and Nana Bhai among the dealers. According to the DRI report, Nissar Ali and team smuggled 4,522 kilograms of gold into the country.
Following investigation, the DRI has prepared a list of 21 people. On learning about this, three persons involved in the deal, have gone underground.
