Thiruvananthapuram/Kasaragod: The Periya double murder case has been handed over the Crime Branch.
State police chief Lokanath Behera issued an order transferring the case to the Crime Branch. A special investigation team overseen by IG S Sreejith will investigate the case.
Meanwhile, five more persons have been arrested in the case. They were identified as Alakode native Suresh, Kallyott natives Girijan, Anil, Sreerag and Ashwin. They were part of the gang that murdered Youth Congress activists Kripesh and Sarath Lal and were under police custody. Their arrests were recorded on Thursday evening.
With the arrest of seven persons, the police hinted that all the accused, directly involved in the double murder have been arrested. Earlier, former CPM local committee member A Peethambaran and Saji George, who drove the vehicle in which the gang travelled were arrested earlier. The duo has been released in police custody.
