Thrissur: In the brutal incident of killing a mother and daughter by setting them on fire by pouring petrol, the district court has ruled life sentence and Rs 1 lakh penalty for the convict. The convict was identified as Robby aka Sojibul Alimandal (27), a native of Bengal. 10 years of imprisonment and Rs 50,000 penalty were also ruled for setting the house on fire. The convict can serve the sentence all together. Failure in paying penalty can attract another 3 years of imprisonment.
Kunjipathu (55), wife of late Muhammed and daughter Seena (17) were burned to death on April 7 in 2015 at 7 am. Earlier, Robby, the convict had worked in Kunjipathu’s neighbourhood as a construction worker and had proposed Seena. The revenge of denying his proposal had enraged him to commit the inhuman act.
He executed the crime by pouring petrol on Kunjipathu and Seena who were sleeping in the house after removing a roof tile. He then ignited them. In the incident, body of Kunjipathu was totally burnt and Seena succumbed to injuries at hospital after 6 days. House was also fully burnt. Final statement of Seena became crucial clue to nab the culprit who was preparing for his escape to Bengal.
The verdict also said to distribute the fine amount equally to Kunjipathu’s other children, Shakir, Jibeesh, Naufal and Sajna.
