Night party, belly dance: 6 arrested, released on bail; resort license to be cancelled
Nedumkandam (Idukki): Six persons have been arrested in connection with the night party and belly dance organised by a business man at a resort in Rajappara near Santhanpara here violating COVID protocols. Santhanapara panchayat has initiated moves to cancel the license of the resort.
Police arrested crusher manager Kothamangalam native Basil Jose, resort manager Kanthippara native Soji Francis, Vechoochira native Manu Krishna, Udumbanchola native Babu Madhavan, Santhanpara native Kuttappayi and Kallippara native MM Raj in connection with the incident. Later they were released on station bail. Santhanpara police have charged a case against 48 people, including the crusher owner Thannikkod Roy Kurian.
Panchayat secretary informed that Udumbanchola panchayat has not granted license to the crusher set up by the Thannikod group at Chathurangappara. Thannikkod group rented the quarry which was stopped by the Revenue department and the Mining and Geology department due to illegal rock mining.
The group has not submitted even the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Revenue department and from the Mining and Geology department for starting the crusher. They have not even applied for operational license, said the secretary PV Biju.
Meanwhile, CPM district secretary K K Jayachandran stated that the allegations against minister MM Mani and Udumbanchola panchayat administrative committee in connection with the metal crusher unit are baseless. The minister only sent his video message from his resident at Thiruvananthapuram, he said.
Udumbanchola panchayat administrative committee also denied the allegations that they received Rs 1 crore as bribe from the crusher owners. There were rumours that Thannikkod group chairman Roy Kurian will hand over a cheque of Rs 1 crore at the inaugural ceremony.
However, no such matter was informed to the panchayat. Also they used the photo of panchayat president Sasikala Murukeshan without permission in their advertisement, they added.
