Neighbour's photo shown as bride; engagement held; Kannur groom loses 3 lakh
Kumarakam: A 43-year-old woman was arrested by Kumarakom police for impersonation and cheating on social media platform.
Thiruvarppu native Raji Raju, an Asha worker and wife of Rajappan, was arrested by police.
Raji had created a fake Facebook profile and cheated Kannur native K M Vikesh with a marriage offer. She had sent the photos, copies of ration card and Aadhaar of her neighbour, a dance teacher, to Vikesh to gain his trust.
The family of the groom had even booked an auditorium to conduct the marriage at Triprayar temple on February 16. However, Raji had cunningly avoided the meeting of the ‘bride’ with Vikesh and his family until Sunday.
Vikesh was told the bride was a technician at the Thiruvananthapuram medical college. Twice Vikesh had started off to Thiruvananthapuram to meet his ‘fiancé’, but Raji deceitfully avoided him in the name of death in family, chickenpox and roadwork. Even the engagement function was held at a lodge on January 27 without the ‘bride’ citing these reasons.
Raji had demanded to transfer the ‘bride’ to Kannur using the political influence of Vikesh, during engagement. She had used the WhatsApp number 7025802438 for carrying out this fraudulent activity.
The Kannur native lost around Rs 3 lakh in the whole process.
Raji had secured the copies of the ration card and Aadhaar of her neighbour claiming to obtain flood relief.
Police have imposed charges of impersonation, fake ID creation and cheating on her. However, the real reason for cheating is yet to be ascertained.
More probe is on into the matter under Kumarakom SI Shibu Pappachan and SI G Rajan Kumar.
