Murder convict out from prison, nabbed again for theft cases
Thrissur: A murder convict who completed 14 years-jail-term for killing his father-in-law and 13-year-old niece was nabbed again by police in connection with 60 theft cases in Kerala.
Sharavanan (54), hailing from Villupuram in Tamil Nadu, has been detained by the police. He had earlier served 14 years imprisonment for murdering his two relatives with cyanide laced in panchamirtham. After completing the jail term, he was released from prison in 2018 and got involved in multiple theft cases in Kerala from then on.
A special investigation team led by Thrissur City Police Commissioner Yathish Chandra took the suspect into custody from Puducherry. Sharavanan had carried out the thefts at various temples, educational institutions, supermarkets, offices and houses in many districts in Kerala. After each burglary, he goes to a house in Puducherry. He would return to Kerala by bus to commit his next robbery.
He had committed thefts at Viyyoor Shiva Temple, Pananchery Mudikkode Shiva Temple, Raman Chira Temple in Thrissur and other places of Palakkad district, including Mannarkkad, Kollamkodu, Kozhinjampara, Alathur and Nemmara. Several theft cases were reported in Kozhinjampara, Nemmara and Kongad schools. It is reported that he had also stolen Rs 1.5 lakh from a mobile shop and Rs 3 lakh from an engine workshop at Kunnamkulam. In addition to this, he had committed series of thefts at various houses and other institutions.
According to sources, he was involved in as many as 15 theft cases in Palakkad district when he was released on parole. The investigating team comprised Thrissur district crime branch ICP Shrinivasan, Kunnamkulam CI KG Suresh, SI M V Rafi, ASI K. Krishnan. Gopalakrishnan, P. Rakesh, K.M. Varghese and Finger Print Inspector Dineshan.
