Murder convict escapes from Poojappura Central Jail
Thiruvananthapuram: A man booked in a murder case and lodged at the Poojappura Central Jail escaped on Tuesday. Jahir Hussain, 48, native of Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu, was serving a life sentence in a 2017 murder case.
Prison officials came to know about Jahir Hussain's escape at around 9 AM on Tuesday. Usually, he works near the washing area adjacent to the outer wall of the prison. He escaped after he was assigned the laundry work on Tuesday morning.
An extensive search has been launched to grab him. The border areas adjoining Tamil Nadu is also under surveillance to track his movement.
Prison officials stated that it is the first time that Jahir Hussain tried to break jail.
