Movie-style robbery in Palakkad; Rs 11 lakh stolen, three held
Palakkad: Kottayi Police has arrested a gang that tried to obtain Rs 11 lakh by orchestrating a robbery drama here. The dramatic incident happened at Anikode in Mathur here on Monday.
According to the police, R Arun, a collection agent of vegetable merchandise in Tamil Nadu’s Mettupalayam, was returning in a vehicle that operates for transportation of vegetables. Arun was travelling along with driver Sujith Parakulam, who is also his acquaintance. The duo had collected cash from various traders for the delivery of vegetables.
When the vehicle reached Anikode, a gang of four in two motorcycles approached the vehicle. One motorcycle blocked the passage of the vehicle, while a person from other motorcycle placed a dagger close to Sujith’s neck and demanded money. With this, Arun gave the money to him. When the gang left, Arun informed the matter to Tamil Nadu merchant Satheesh.
On Tuesday, Satheeh approached Kottayi police with a complaint over the incident. Following that, police questioned Arun and Sujith separately. The statements on the incident narrated by the duo had some contradictions. Later, it was found that that robbery happened with the knowledge of Sujith.
Police said that Sujith confessed to the crime. The cops also claimed that Sujith has attempted to obtain the collected money earlier too. However, his attempt failed as the money was deposited through cash depositing machine in the bank. Robbery drama was orchestrated after this.
Meanwhile, police have arrested three including Sujith. The two others arrested in the case are identified as Rohith Eenthakkad and Arun Parakulam. The officials have seized Rs 5 lakhs from them. Two others involved in the case are still absconding. The three arrested where produced before the court and were remanded.
