Mother strangles 11-yr-old child to death in Kottayam
Uzhavoor: In a shocking incident, a 11-year-old girl was strangled to death by her mother here on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Soorya Raman, daughter of Kanathil MG Kochuraman (Kunjappan) at Uzhavoor.
The body of the girl was found with a bath towel tied around her neck. Her mother Sali confessed that she committed the murder. Kuravilangad police have taken her into custody.
Police reported that the woman is not mentally stable.
The murder came to light on Wednesday around 5 pm. The family has been residing at a rented lodge here.
The deceased was a 6th standard student of Areekkara SNUP School. Her brother Swaroop is a 7th standard student. Swaroop stated that Soorya was asked to skip her class as her mother was unwell.
When Swaroop returned from school, his mother Sali refused to open the doors. Following this, Swaroop informed the matter to the lodge owner. Later, Grama panchayat vice president VT Suresh reached the lodge to settle the matter and Sali disclosed the murder to him.
Though Soorya was taken to Uzhavoor Govt. Hospital, she was declared brought dead.
Sali and Kochuraman, natives of Pala, have been residing at Uzhavoor for many years. Police reported that Sali was under treatment for mental illness. Kochuraman is working as a security guard at a private hospital.
Soorya’s body is being kept at the mortuary in Kottayam medical college.
