Minor girl who attempted suicide was sexually abused for 3 years; incident brought to light by cops
Mundakkayam (Kottayam): The brutal incident in which a 15-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by four young men came to light due to the timely intervention and counselling of a female police officer.
The girl was successfully brought back to life with the intervention of NG Priya, a senior civil police officer (SCPO) at Mundakayam station.
The girl had attempted suicide and was hospitalised. Her mother had left the family when she was only four-years-old and her father remarried and is settled in Pathanamthitta. The girl has been living with her aunt since then. She used to contact her friends through her aunt's phone. Her father gave her a new android phone recently to attend online classes.
On checking her phone, police found that the girl used to video chat with many people. Following this, Inspector V Shibukumar asked SCPO Priya to give counselling to the girl. Though the girl refused to respond initially, Priya continued to ask about the incident and convinced her that it is all for her own good.
Later, the girl opened up about the years of sexual abuse she has been going through. Accused Rahul Raj abused the girl at Panchalimedu and at her own house several times. Another accused Mahesh attacked the girl in the house near his stepmother's house. Anandu, the accused in the third case, abused the girl at his house in Madukka when he was under treatment following an accident.
Recently, Ajith, one of the accused and the boyfriend of another girl who attempted suicide took the girls to Kandankayam and later returned. A woman in the neighborhood saw them and questioned the girls. The girls told her neighbour that the boys had come to give hand over some books.
However, when she asked the girls to show the books, the girls could not. When the woman said that she would tell the girl's aunt about the incident, the girls got scared and tried to end their lives.
