Thiruvananthapuram: Police who searched the hideout of Thiruvallam Unni, an accused in over 200 theft cases, were stunned to see the stuff he stole. The array of stolen goods included from fevicol bottles to motors. Unni stole each and everything he saw at the shops he broke into. He was living undercover at a house on KS Road in Kovalam when police arrested him.
In the search, police found emergency lamps, torches, coins in plastic covers, copper vessels, currency notes, perfumes, hair dye, shampoos, slippers, cigarettes, Horlicks, Boost, dry fruits and many more items from his house.
Police said, Unni makes a list of targeted shops after observing it on the previous day of operation. Shops included from roadside canopy shops to medium sized shops. He goes for theft in own autorikshaw and starts stealing after parking it at a safe place. Unni breaks into a shop wearing helmet and four to five shirts. This is to mislead the police on body stature.
His wife, who used to assist him in theft, is now serving a term in jail for stealing auto spare parts from a shop. Ever since police identified him in connection with this case, Unni was absconding. He was arrested in a detailed investigation. Neyyattinkara court remanded him.
Unni was first arrested for stealing cars. By then, he had stolen 19 cars.
