Man who made headlines by marrying girlfriend with court order arrested for moral policing next day
Varandarappilly (Thrissur): The man who filed a habeas corpus petition in court to marry his girlfriend who was forcefully put in a mental asylum has been arrested for swindling money through moral policing. Veloopadam native Gafoor (31) was arrested on Tuesday along with his friends Hafees (30), Muhammed Rafeeq (29) and Srutheesh Kumar (25).
They were arrested in connection with the attack of a 23-year-old man from Wayanad in the name of moral policing and looting his money and gold ring after shooting nude videos. The incident took place on April 7.
The gang attacked the man when he was visiting his girlfriend at her residence. They blindfolded the man and withdrew Rs 4900 using his ATM card. They also made his relative deposit Rs 15,000 and withdrew that amount as well, according to the complaint.
Gafoor married his girlfriend with the support of court order on Monday. She was forcefully kept in a mental asylum by her father and relatives. The police stated that the moral policing incident was operated in Gafoor’s leadership. The accused will be produced in the court on Wednesday.
