Vyttila: In a bizarre incident, the Maradu police nabbed a young man for threatening a street food vendor asking him to immediately serve him dosas before serving a customer who had ordered food ahead of him.
The strange incident took place around 8 pm on Friday at a street food stall near Vyttila Mobility Hub.
The young man, who was in an inebriated condition, reached the stall and ordered dosa. The vendor asked the man to wait as he had to serve other customers who had already ordered.
Enraged over this, the young man pulled out a gun from his jeans pocket, pointed the weapon at the seller and threatened him to serve him dosas first.
Frightened after seeing the gun, the vendor served him dosas immediately. The young man ate the dosas and tried to leave after washing his hands. On seeing this, the vendor asked the man to pay for the dosas he ate. The young man again pulled out the gun and held it to next to the vendor’s head.
However, other people nearby and including several autorickshaw drivers, noticed the man with the gun and nabbed him. They then forcefully took away the gun from him and alerted the police. The Maradu police came to the spot and took the man into custody.
An eyewitness said the man had come to the city from England on vacation and that the gun was a real one.
However, Maradu Circle Inspector (CI) Vinod Kumar said the man was a native of Idukki and a staff of a private company in Kochi. Stating that the weapon he had was a toy gun, the CI added that has been released on bail after registering a case.
