Man on bail who raped, murdered woman in Palakkad gets life sentence
Palakkad: A man who raped and murdered a former panchayat member has been awarded life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000. The culprit is identified as Chemmanampathy native Kittuchami (35). The verdict was pronounced by the Palakkad First Additional Session Court judge P Saithalavi.
Kittuchami was accused in another rape case and was released on bail. He murdered the woman on the same day of his release. He was awarded 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000 for rape charges alone. If the fine is not paid, he would have to serve more years in prison.
The incident took place on November 15, 2012. The woman had gone to Panthappara colony near her house to sell vegetables. As she did not return, her family started searching and found her body in a mango plantation by 8 at night. She had sustained injuries all over her body.
According to the prosecution, Kittuchami struck the woman with a wooden rod while she was returning home through the plantation on foot and then raped her. When she raised an alarm, the man hit her with the wood and strangled her to death with her saree. It was found in the post-mortem that the woman was raped.
Kollengode police had registered a case against Kittuchami in March 2012 for raping another woman. He was awarded life imprisonment in this case in 2019 and is currently in Viyyur Central Prison.
