Medical College (Thrissur): A three-and-a-half-year-old boy who was severely injured after being smashed against a wall by his father succumbed to his injuries at the Thrissur Medical College. The boy’s father who attempted suicide by jumping into a well after commiting the crime was rescued by local people and was taken to a nearby hospital where he set himself on fire and died.
The deceased was identified as Sathyabalan (40), a native of Chittur, Palakkad. He set himself ablaze on Saturday noon at the hospital. His son Sanujith succumbed to the injuries after his father's death. Sathyabalan's wife Jayaprabha, who sustained minor injuries in the dispute she had with her husband, is under treatment at the district hospital.
Sathyabalan attacked his wife and son on Friday due to domestic issues. Following that, he smashed the child against the wall. After that, he jumped into the well to kill himself. He also severed the vein on his hand. However, natives rescued him and admitted him to the Thrissur Medical College.
After reaching the hospital, Sathyabalan declined to have food though hospital staff offered him food. By 12 pm, he went missing from the ward. By 1 pm, his body was found in a charred state behind the hospital. His body was completely burnt and has been shifted to medical college mortuary.
