Pandalur: Devala police have seized huge cache of explosives including 199 gelatin sticks and detonators from Nadukani near Wayanad. One person has been arrested in connection with this on Tuesday.

Pandalur native Kamaraj (40) was apprehended by the police while transporting the explosives from Malappuram to Tamil Nadu. According to the police, the explosives were seized from Kamaraj during an inspection while he arrived at Nadukani. The explosives were kept in a bag.

Kamaraj told police that he took the explosives to remove rock for building well. However, police suspect that the explosives were meant for gold miners.

It is learned that there are many families in Devala and Ponnur regions who collect rocks having presence of gold ire from the crushers and separate the metal later.

According to reports, many gold mines and quarries started during British rule are found in the forest range at Devala, Ponnur and Pandalur.

Earlier, many people used to mine gold from here. Forest officials and police have put restrictions on people mining gold from these forest ranges after many were killed in landslide during monsoon.
