It is learned that the gang attacked and robbed Abdul Nazar Shamsad, a native of Dakshina Kannada in Karnataka, after mistaking him to be a gold smuggler. The gang took away cash and documents from Shamsad.
Abdul Nazar Shamsad landed at Karipur early on Sunday and was heading to Kozhikode in a share taxi. At that time, a gang followed them in a jeep and two-wheeler and waylaid the taxi. The gang used pepper spray on the other passengers and dragged Shamsad into the jeep.
All the way through the journey, the gang beat up Shamsad and repeatedly questioned where he had kept the gold. The gang took away the cash, documents and a camera that Shamsad had with him.
