Kothamangalam: A man who hacked his wife to death in front of their children was found dead later at Namboori Koop in Oonnukal. The deceased was identified as Saji Antony (42) and his deceased wife was Priya (38). Their sons Abin (12) and Godwin (10) are still in shock over the sudden demise.
After killing his wife on Tuesday, Saji was found hanging from an anjili tree in a rubber plantation, 100 meters away from home. Police and natives searched for Saji who was absconding after murdering his wife. Saji was found dead on Wednesday around 9.30 am. Believing that Saji had gone under cover, police had sought the help of dog squad and forensic experts to nab him.
Police learned the information of his death when the inquest on Priya’s body had begun. After legal proceedings, post-mortem was carried out on both bodies at Muvattupuzha General Hospital. According to police, there were 10 wounds on Priya’s body. Post-mortem report pointed out that loss of blood due to deep wounds on head, nape and chest led to the death of Priya.
A dispute between the couple led to the fatal incidents.
On Tuesday, Priya along with her father had filed a complaint against Saji at Oonnukal police. Based on that, Saji was asked to appear at the station on Thursday.
On the day of the incident Priya had reached home around 4 pm after work. She was working as a tailor at Oonnukal town. It is assumed that the couple had a dispute. According to police, Saji hacked Priya in front of the children when she got ready to leave to her house. Statements of children and relatives will be recorded later, said police.
Funeral of Priya and Saji were conducted at Little Flower Forane Church, Oonnukal on Wednesday evening.
