Thiruvananthapuram: A man hacked his wife to death over family dispute and surrendered before the police at Mullassery in Karakulam, here in the district.
The deceased was identified as Smitha, a resident of Mullassery in Karakulam.
On Wednesday midnight, a dispute broke out between Smitha and her husband Sajeevan. An enraged Sajeevan stabbed Smitha with a knife. Bleeding profusely, Smitha ran out of the house in a desperate attempt to save herself. Sajeevan chased Smitha and hacked her on the neck.
Smitha’s body was lying on the path leading to their house. Later, Sajeevan informed the neighbours about the murder and surrendered before Nedumangad police.
Neighbours said that the couple used to fight regularly. Smitha was working as a nurse earlier. Sajeevan had destroyed her certificates by setting them ablaze. Following this, Smitha was working at a medical store at Nedumangad.
Sajeevan is a daily wage labourer. The couple have two school going daughters. Police and forensic department officials inspected the spot.
