Thalassery: A train passenger was robbed on a train after being sedated on Monday. Moideen (52), a native of Iritty, was doped with tea laced with sedatives and robbed of money.

A young man befriended Moideen while at Thrissur railway station platform where he was waiting to board the Eranad express around 10.30 am. The man offered Moideen a cup of tea. After drinking the tea, Moideen fell unconscious. The only thing Moideen could recollect was that the man helped him board the train and found him a seat.

Police constables’ K Sharman and P Shijil who were travelling on the same train found Moideen unconscious when train reached Payyoli. They were returning to Kannur central jail after producing a convict in a court in Kozhikode.

When they failed to wake him up, the constables forcefully made him sit on the seat. Meanwhile, Moideen opened his eyes and said that his money was robbed after drinking a drugged tea. He again fell unconscious.

Further, policemen informed the matter to Thrissur railway control room. He was then taken to a hospital by RPF officers from Thalassery station.

It is not clear when he was robbed, whether on train or platform. This information will be obtained only after he regains his complete consciousness, said railway police.
