Man chops off uncle’s leg over ‘dishonour’ in Idukki
Maryoor (Idukki): A man cut off his uncle’s leg over an incident of dishonour here. 68-year-old Muthupandi of Kanthalloor panchayat was subjected to the cruelty by his brother’s son Murukan (28).
Muthupandi’s leg was cut off using a machete for visiting the house of other caste member and having food from there. 95 percent of the leg has been chopped off.
The incident took place on Tuesday at around 9.45 am in presence of many onlookers. Muthupandi was seating on the veranda of a shop near Dhendykombu junction in Kovilkkadavu. Murukan arrived with a machete and cut of Muthupandi’s leg. He later escaped in an autorickshaw and is still absconding. Muthupandi was left on the road for more than 15 minutes. Nobody dared to go near him. Marayoor police arrived at the spot and transferred him to health centre. He was later shifted to FIMS hospital in Coimbatore.
Muthupandi has given statement to police that Murukan repeatedly tells and argues with him not to visit or have food from houses of other caste members.
The visuals of Murukan’s entry and exit have been caught in a CCTV camera installed at the shop.
Meanwhile, doctors hope that Muthupandi’s leg can be stitched back.
