Thiruvananthapuram: A youth who attempted suicide disappointed over power disconnection breathed his last at a hospital here on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Neyyattinkara Peringadavila native Sanal.
On Tuesday, he attempted suicide alleging that KSEB disconnected power connection to his house due to the intervention of the panchayat president.
He was declared dead on Wednesday morning while undergoing treatment at Thiruvananthapuram medical college. KSEB officials reached his house on Tuesday to disconnect the power connection due to non-payment of bill.
As Sanal was not at home, his wife told the officials that they will settle the bill on Tuesday itself. Following this, the officials left the house. But the KSEB officials returned on the intervention of the panchayat president, alleged Sanal’s family.
Sanal contested the LSG polls as UDF rebel candidate in Peringadavila panchayat. He was the rival candidate to incumbent panchayat president Surendran. It is alleged that Surendran took revenge on Sanal by influencing the KSEB officials.
Meanwhile, Surendran dismissed the allegations and termed it as baseless.
KSEB authority also claimed that they disconnected the power to over 10 houses in the region due to non-payment of bills. They also asserted that they were not pressurised to disconnect the power connection.
