Male teacher held for sexually abusing boy with autism
Sreekariyam: Police on Monday arrested a male teacher for sexually abusing a 10-year-old boy suffering from autism. The Sreekariyam police arrested Santhosh.
A medical board led by a doctor at Peroorkada mental health centre had given a report to police stating that the boy was subjected to sexual abuse.
The boy was abused in July, following which he showed signs of psychological discomfort. The boy told his speech therapist about the abuse. He had not told his mother as Santhosh had threatened the boy that he would kill his mother if he told her about the abuse.
The family then informed the school officials and police about the incident. The Sreekariyam police registered a case under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. The police recorded the boy’s statement but the probe met a dead end.
Following this, the boy’s family filed a complaint to the DGP. The police were initially reluctant to register a case citing the contradicting statements given by the boy.
