Kondotty: A youth who tried to smuggle gold by concealing it under his wig was nabbed by the air customs intelligence officials at the Karipur airport.
Muhammed Rameez from Malappuram was arrested for trying to smuggle gold compound on top of his head and hiding it with a wig. He shaved off the top portion of his hair and hid the gold compound so that no one could identify the fake hair. He hid 907 grams of gold which is worth Rs 25 lakh. The youth was travelling by Air India Express from Abu Dhabi.
This is for the first time that such kind of smuggling is happening from the Karipur airport. Last week, a Kerala youth was arrested by the customs department for trying to smuggle gold concealing under his wig. The Malappuram youth had arrived at the Nedumbassery airport from Sharjah and around 1.15 kg of gold was seized.
Deputy commissioner Nithin Lal, Asst commissioner Surendranathan, superintendents Gokuldas, Bimaldas, Isaac Vargese, Inspectors Sourabh, Vigil, Rafeez, Shilpa and havildar Francis were present in the team which nabbed the culprit.
