Major twist in black money robbery at Kodakara: Involvement of police officers comes to light
Thrissur: In a major twist in the black money robbery case at Kodakara, the latest reports confirmed that some policemen also are involved in the conspiracy. It is alleged that 3 cops including a recipient of the Chief Minister’s medal for exemplary service are linked with the black money robbers.
According to reports, the gang conspired that if they fail to loot the money at Kodakara, they will execute the robbery with the help of police at Irinjalakuda. They had paid some amount as advance to these policemen for the same.
The gang looted black money worth Rs 3.5 crore by creating a fake road accident on April 3. A national party had sent this money to Ernakulam for election expenses. The probe team had arrested 7 people in connection with the case on the other day. It is learned that they were members of a quotation gang that regularly robbed black money.
The probe team got the information on the involvement of police officials in the crime after the interrogation of an accused named Deepak who is in custody.
The robbers assumed that the vehicle carrying the money will go to Ernakulam either via Angamaly or via Irinjalakuda-Paravur. If the vehicle crosses through the National Highway via Angamaly, the team conspired to create the accident at Kodakara and loot the money.
In order to avoid the chances of missing the vehicle on the other route, they hired the policemen to block the vehicle in Irinjalakuda and seize the money. Policemen were asked to seize the money claiming a checking in connection with the election.
But as the vehicle moved to Ernakulam via the National Highway, the team followed it in three cars and created a fake accident at Kodakara. Following the accident, they hijacked the car which carried the money.
However, high level police officers have not confirmed the involvement of police officials in the case. But they have initiated a probe into the incident.
