Large amount of gold jewellery looted on-board Chennai – Mangalore Superfast, Malabar Express trains
Kannur: A robbery was reported on-board Chennai – Mangalore Superfast, Malabar Express trains on Saturday. Gold worth more than Rs 20 lakh were looted from the two trains.
Gold worth Rs 15 lakh belonging to a Chennai native was looted from Chennai-Mangalore Superfast Express train and 9.5 sovereigns of gold owned by Kanhangad natives was robbed on-board the Thiruvananthapuram-Mangalore Malabar Express train.
It is believed that the robberies took place near Tirur and Vadakara-Mahe premises. The two trains traveling in Mangalore direction. Police are suspecting that a single gang would be behind both the robberies.
Gold ornaments worth Rs 15 lakh was robbed from Chennai native Ponnimaran from the AC coach of the train. He has lodged a complaint with the railway police.
The Kanhangad natives boarded the train from Angamaly and were on their way back from Singapore. Their statements were collected by the railway police.
Kozhikode police would be probing both the cases.
