KSRTC employee dismissed for raping female colleague, abetting suicide
Thiruvananthapuram: A KSRTC employee has been dismissed after he was charged with cases for raping a female colleague and abetting her suicide. The man identified as I P Jose is a selection grade assistant in Nedumkandam operating centre.
The action was taken after he was named accused in two cases registered by the police. The sexual harassment complaint was raised when he was working in Angamaly unit. The police booked a case on the basis of the woman’s complaint.
While the probe was progressing, the complainant committed suicide by jumping into the backwater from Vallarpadam bridge. Later, Angamaly police found that Jose mentally tortured the woman which led to her suicide.
Thus the police also booked case for abetment to suicide against him. Following this, KSRTC recommended departmental action against Jose. Serious behavioural and disciplinary issues were found on the part of the accused.
Jose had filed a complaint requesting to grant him promotion and benefits as the departmental procedures were delayed. When CMD Biju Prabhakar conducted a probe into the complaint, he found that two criminal cases were filed against the concerned person.
The management has decided to take strict action against those who are accused in sexual harassment cases and atrocities against woman. Recently, the superintendent in Kaniyapuram depot was suspended for sending obscene messages to his female colleague.
