Kottiyam suicide case: Woman’s father demands Crime Branch probe
Kollam: The parents of the woman, who committed suicide after allegedly being cheated by her fiancé, criticized the police investigating the case. The father of the victim demanded a probe by the Crime Branch into the matter. He also lodged a complaint with the city police commissioner demanding to charge the accused Harish under POCSO Act as he had sexually assaulted her when she was a minor.
Harish was arrested for cheating the woman in the name of marriage.
The family of the woman had raised allegations earlier following which a special probe team was constituted to inquire into the matter. The family expressed dissatisfaction over the probe conducted by the special team, in the complaint filed now.
The complaint also demanded to add Harish’s family members in the accused list. Harish had sexually assaulted the woman before she was 18 years of age and hence he should be booked under POCSO Act, they further demanded.
The woman’s father also said in the complaint that Harish took lakhs of rupees from the woman and he initiated the relationship in order to swindle money. A case in this angle also should be charged.
The woman, a native of Kottiyam, committed suicide after her fiancé Harish Mohammad backtracked on marriage after molesting her. She was found hanging inside her house on September 3.
Harish and family withdrew from marriage after the engagement and ‘Valayidal’ ceremony. Harish was in a relationship with the woman for more than 8 years.
After the engagement, Harish took the woman to many places and sexually abused her. It is reported that he also swindled money and gold from the woman’s family.
The actress, who is the sister-in-law of the accused, used to visit the victim’s house and take her to serial locations. The woman later got pregnant. The family alleged that the actress and her family members produced a fake marriage certificate for the victim to abort her pregnancy.
