Kolenchery rape case: Police find political links for accused Omana
Kolenchery: The accused in the rape and brutal assault of a 75-year-old woman in Pangode here, were remanded.
The Puthenkurishu police had, on Wednesday, arrested three persons - Chembarakky native Muhammad Shafi (50) named as first accused, Iruppachira native Manoj (43) and his mother Omana (66), the second and third accused respectively.
Police informed the court that Manoj had viciously attacked the victim. The weapon used for the attack was not found and that the involvement of more persons was being probed.
Omana, a neighbour, took the victim to her house and abetted the rape and attack, police further informed.
According to Omana’s statement to police, her illicit dealers included many political leaders. The special team probing the case was instructed to inquire into the matter.
The accused were presented before the Kolenchery magistrate court via video conferencing.
The incident took place on Sunday. The elderly woman was raped and serious wounds were inflicted in her private parts using a sharp object.
