Killing of RSS activist: Attacker nabbed after 25 years
Thrissur: After 25 years of the crime being committed, the real culprit behind the murder of RSS activist Thozhiyoor Sunil was nabbed. Chavakkad native Moidheen, member of the terror outfit Jamiyyathul Hisania, was nabbed.
Four CPM activists, who were nabbed in the case earlier, were locked up in the jail for four years. The trial court had sentenced them to life imprisonment. However, the High Court cancelled the trial court verdict and ordered for a re-investigation.
On December 4, 1994 a gang carrying weapons barged into Sunil’s house and hacked him to death. Sunil’s parents and siblings were also injured in the attack. Guruvayur police, which probed the case, arrested CPM activists Biji, Baburaj, Haridas and Rafeeq. Thrissur sessions court pronounced the verdict sending them for lifetime imprisonment.
Meanwhile, in an investigation conducted by Anti-Terrorist Squad, under the then DySP T. P. Senkumar, it was found that terror outfit Jamiyyathul Hisania was behind the murder.
The probe team interrogated Vadanappilli native Santhosh, Kaipamangalam Chalingad native Rajeev, Kollangode Thami murder case culprits and some members of Jamiyyathul Hisania after which it was found that the jailed CPM activists were not the real culprits.
Police said that more arrests will be followed in the coming days.
