Key accused who smuggled cannabis from Andhra to Kerala arrested
Kochi: Ernakulam Rural Police arrested a man who smuggled large amount of cannabis from the Naxal affected area in Andhra Pradesh to Kerala. The arrested was identifid as Palakkad Chokkad Sharafudheen (39).
Ernakulam Rural Police Chief K Karthik and team had seized 150 kilograms of cannabis from a village in Visakhapatnam in November last year. Following this, a special team, including Angamali inspector Soni Mathai, SI T M Sufi, held a probe and nabbed the accused.
The police had received clues about the cannabis supply chain in Kerala. With this, they traced that the major source of cannaibs was the Naxalite-affected area in Andhra Pradesh. Cannabis collected for low amount from other states is sold 10-15 times higher amount in Kerala. Sharafudheen has direct contact with major cannabis dealers.
