Kerala teacher who sexually assaulted 1st standard girl student gets 29 yrs imprisonment
Pavaratty: A moral science teacher, who sexually assaulted a first-standard girl student, has been sentenced to 29 years in jail and also fined Rs 2.15 lakhs. The non-payment of fine will invite another 2 years and 9 months imprisonment.
The sentence against the teacher Kaarat Abdulrafeeque (44) of Cheerakuzhi in Nilambur was delivered by Kunnamkulam Fast Track Court Special Judge MP Shibu.
The incident happened in 2012. Abdulrafeeque sexually assaulted the girl, who was dozing in the back seat of the bus due to tiredness, while returning after a school excursion. The chargesheet in the case was submitted by Pavaratty police inspectors MK Ramesh and A Faizal after investigation. Notably, during the legal course of the case, some teachers, who were the witnesses, turned hostile. However, the hearing of 20 witnesses and submission of 12 documents and scientific evidences turned crucial. Special public prosecutor advocate KS Binoy appeared for the prosecution.
Meanwhile, this is the first case registered in Thrissur after POCSO was enacted.
