Kerala men lose tens of thousands of rupees through escort sites
Kochi: Young men in Kerala are losing tens and thousands of rupees on online escort sites. Fraud victims never complain in fear of losing reputation. Police learned about the online fraudulence only when a man who lost Rs 24,000 lodged a complaint with Kochi city cyber cell.
Netizens here who search for escort sites can find such sites beginning with words ‘Kerala’ and ‘Malayalee’ attached with a phone number. Customers who make calls to this number is answered by Keralites. People who attend the calls claim they have several girls in their list and would send their images to the customer’s mobile phones.
Rs 2000 and above is charged for sending images. Images are sent once the demanded money is paid online. As the customer chooses a girl, he will be again asked to pay the money in advance. 20 percent of the total amount should be paid as advance to deliver the girl. Tens of thousands are charged as advance amount.
Once the money is paid, a place is fixed to handover the girl. As the customer reach the decided location, he will get a call from the suppliers saying the booked girl had an emergency situation and she is not available for service. Further they say that another girl could be sent if more money is paid. Some customers fall prey to this deception. Once the money is paid, they will not send the girl and the number goes unattended thereafter.
Many who get cheated never complain as it defames their reputation which fraudsters exploit. Cyber Cell officials say only very few people who get cheated file a complaint in such cases.
