Kerala girl studying in Bengaluru found dead in Erode; family raises suspicion
Thrissur: The family of a Keralite girl who was found dead at Erode in Tamil Nadu has raised suspicion over her mysterious death. The deceased was identified as Sruthi, a 22-year-old girl from Valappad in Thrissur. Her parents have filed a complaint with the Thrissur Rural SP and the Chief Minister over this matter.
Sruthi, daughter of Karthikeyan and Kairali, was a first-year LLB student at a private college in Bengaluru. The family was informed about her death in Erode in Tamil Nadu on August 17. The family suggested foul play in the incident and raised allegation on the involvement of drug mafia.
Erode South Police told Sruthi’s family that she had committed suicide by consuming poison. Her male friend was also admitted to the hospital due to poisoning. Sruthi’s mother Kairali told Mathrubhumi.com that the behaviour of the Erode police was suspicious right from the beginning.
“Our daughter was working in Ernakulam after completing B.Com and later joined for LLB in Bengaluru. She was at home during the first lockdown. She returned to Bengaluru after the Covid curbs were eased. She used to come home once or twice every month. Her last visit was on July 9. She went back to Bengaluru on July 13 after our wedding anniversary celebration. She also said she would return on August 20,” her mother said.
"The Erode police phoned us on August 17. They told us that our daughter had been hospitalised. We heard about her death only after we reached there. They took us to the hospital from there. Police told us that she was taken to the hospital from Erode Railway station and that she had met with an accident. They informed us later that she had died of poisoning. We did not get the phone, bag or any other belongings of our daughter. The police had only her Aadhaar card with them which they returned to us," she added.
"They allowed us to see only our daughter’s face. When asked why they wouldn’t show us the entire body, they said that it was not possible. The man who accompanied her was also at the hospital. He is an Ernakulam native and was admitted to the hospital after allegedly being poisoned. His friend, a Kozhikode native was also there, but he was acting in a weird manner. He said that we must not conduct a postmortem on Sruthi’s body and that we should not blame his friend in this case. Another policeman too repeated the same thing, but I insisted that we conduct the postmortem,” said Sruthi's mother.
The family is also clueless about how Sruthi reached Erode from Bengaluru as she did not tell them about any journey. Sruthi's father has reached from his workplace abroad on knowing about her death.
