Kahangad: It has been unveiled that The reason behind the murder of two Youth Congress activists in Kasaragod was in revenge for attacking a local leader of CPM. FIR filed by Bakel police said it was an incident of political killing.
Koorankara natives, Sarath Lal (27) and Kripesh (21) were murdered on Sunday evening. The two were convicts in assaulting Peethambaran, a CPM local area committee member. Sarath was the first and Kripesh was the sixth convict in the case. Including Sarath, 11 people were remanded in this case and were on bail since February 7. Kripesh wasn’t arrested in this case.
According to FIR, the deceased had received threats. Based on this, police had nabbed two persons into custody in connection with the case on Monday. The two had posted a threat message on Facebook saying Sarath and Kripesh would be killed between Feb 18 and July 18. The two were interrogated. However, no information has been received about murder, said district police chief Dr A Srinivas. Since it is a border district, police have also sought the help of Karnataka police.
Broken skull
Sarath and Kripesh were murdered in a most heinous way. Kripesh was hacked on his head above the forehead. Inquest report of Kripesh said a wound on his head, 11 cm in length and 2 cm in depth, caused his death. The hack resulted in breaking his skull.
Sarath was hacked 5 times on his neck. Flesh and bone were mixed on his both legs after the attack. Post mortem reports said a sharp weapon like machete was used in the attack. Investigation officers believe that the attackers were either trained or had previous experience.
Three mobile phones were found from the scene. Two of them belonged to Sarath and Kripesh. Police suspect the third one belonged to the attackers. SIM card of the phone is handed over to cyber cell. Besides that, two bikes and a handle of machete were found from the scene which are suspected to be used by attackers.
Planned murder
Police believe that the murders were planned. The crime took place at a place where Thannithara-Kallyott tarred road ends. At this spot, one side of the road is a higher area and the other side is plain land. The attackers were hiding here behind shrubs. The gang might have got accurate message that Sarath and Kripesh had left to Kallyott on bike. Few minutes were needed to reach Koorankara from the place where they left by bike. Just 10 minutes before the two reached the spot, Sarath’s relatives had passed through the spot after attending a marriage function. But by the time another group of relatives, who went with the first group, reached the place, Sarath and Kripesh were lying on road injured. The gang finished the crime within a 10 minutes’ span.
Special team for investigation
A special team comprised of Dr A Srinivas, Kasaragod district police chief, 4 DySPs and 3 inspectors has been formed to investigate the double murder case.
