Karukachal murder: Criminals chopped off Manesh’s leg while he was alive, say police
Karukachal (Kottayam): It has come to light that Kangazha Idayappara native Manesh (32) was killed brutally by the criminal gang. The criminals stated to the police that they chopped off his limb while he was alive.
Key accused Kadayinikkad native Jayesh (31) wreaked vengeance on Manesh as he and his gang had attacked and left Jayesh with a fractured leg six months ago.
Following this, Jayesh and the gang searched for Manesh and spotted him on Thursday. Sensing trouble, he ran into a rubber plantation from the panchayat road about 400 meters away. But the criminal gang chased him and hacked brutally.
There were 25 wounds on Manesh’s body. After attacking him, Jayesh chopped off Manesh’s right foot with a Gurkha knife. The other criminals held him tight and Jayesh pulled off the foot from his leg. The locals informed that Manesh cried aloud in pain and crawled in the plantation after this.
Karukachal police stated that the criminals left the spot carrying the severed foot only after confirming the death of Manesh. Jayesh and Kumarakom native Sachu Chandran (23) had surrendered after the crime. Later, the police nabbed Kangazha native Jijo Varghese (28) and Pandiyamkuzhi native Sachin Suresh (26).
After the murder, the criminals displayed the foot in Mundathanam town and surrendered at Manimala police station. When Jayesh and Sachu were brought to the spot for evidence collection, Jayesh blackmailed the locals who crowded there that their heads and legs would also be chopped if anyone dared to give statement against them.
Jayesh also said to the crowd in front of the police that he will kill the other six persons who had attacked him before. Jayesh was accused in 14 similar cases but was acquitted as there were no witnesses.
