IPL betting racket busted in Bengaluru: 27 including Keralites held
Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Central Crime Branch has busted an Indian Premier League (IPL) betting racket and arrested 27 including Keralites here on Wednesday. A gang including Thrissur natives Gokul, Kiran and a Bengaluru-based Keralite Sajeev was taken into custody. The crime branch seized Rs 78 lakh from the accused.
As per reports, the betting took place in connection with the final match between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. The racket operated the betting via online from a hotel in Bengaluru, informed the Crime Branch.
Many Keralites were involved in the betting. Chennai natives Surya and Kapil are also among those who were arrested. Natives of Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka are also part of the gang. It is learnt that they managed to collect a huge amount through online betting.
A detailed investigation into the case is being carried out, added the officials. The Crime Branch team also seized laptops and electronic gadgets during the raid held at the hotel.
Two weeks back, Delhi police had arrested two people over similar charges. The Crime Branch informed that they are probing whether there is any link between both the cases.
