In bid to steal gold chain, burglar throws sand at employee in Kottayam jewellery
Kottayam: A burglar broke into a jewellery here and threw sand into the eyes of an employee of the showroom. The incident took place at a jewellery owned by NC Rejimon alias Gireesh, near Maha Deva temple alongside the MC road.
A person wearing T-shirt and pants walked into the jewellery at around 3 pm. He was also wearing a scarf over his head and had a bag in his hand. He asked for a gold chain of one sovereign and as the ornament was not in stock there, the jewellery employee informed that it will be brought from another jewellery nearby owned by Gireesh himself.
When employee of that jewellery brought the chain, the man examined it and said that he doesn’t have the money to pay for one sovereign. Instead he asked a chain of 6 grams. When that employee returned to other jewellery to take the chain, the man threw sand hidden in the bag to the eyes of the first employee in the jewellery.
Simultaneously, the man attempted to open the shelf. However, as the employee dodged, the sand fell on the nearby table and his body. The employee raised an alarm and people rushed into the showroom. With this, the burglar fled the spot. Ettumanoor police have initiated a probe on the case.
