Idukki Acid attack: Youth loses vision on one eye, woman says argument over money provoked her
Adimali: A youth lost vision of his right eye after a woman with whom he was in a relationship attacked him with acid. The woman also suffered burn injuries on her face and neck.
Police arrested Adimali native Sheeba (37) over the acid attack. Arun Kumar (27) who suffered severe burn injuries in the attack is undergoing treatment at Thiruvanathapuram medical college.
As per the statement of the youth, the woman attacked him after he stepped back from the relationship. Meanwhile, the woman told police that she attacked Arun following an argument over money deal.
Sheeba, a home nurse, revealed that she had acquainted with Arun while working in Thiruvananthapuram. But Arun told police that they became friends through social media and fell in love with each other.
It was recently Arun realised that his lover is married with two kids. Following this, he decided to marry another girl.
When Sheeba came to know about his plans, she demanded him to return the money which he borrowed from her. She also threatened him that she will file a case against him. The duo reached Irumpupalam on Tuesday to settle the issue. But an argument broke out between the duo and the angry woman smeared acid on the youth’s face.
At first, Arun Kumar, who suffered burn injuries in the attack, was rushed to a private hospital in Angamaly. He told the hospital staff that the acid accidentally fell over his face. Later, he was shifted to medical college. The hospital authority informed police. Following this, Adimali police reached Thiruvananthapuram and recorded the youth’s statement. The CCTV visuals helped the police nab the accused. Later, they arrested Sheeba from her husband’s residence on Saturday. Sheeba also told her family that she suffered burns after acid accidentally fell on her.
The court remanded her in judicial custody. The accused is under police surveillance at Kottayam medical college.
