Hundreds seek treatment in Kollam after taking medicine given by fake doctor
Anchal (Kollam): Several people sought medical help after consuming the medicine prescribed by a fake doctor. The incident happened near Eroor Pathadi in Anchal. Hundreds of people including a four-year-old sought medical attention from various hospitals. A lot of people are down with kidney and liver-related diseases.
Mohammed Ali, son of Pathadi native Ubaid, has been admitted to the Thiruvananthapuram Children's Hospital. The fake doctor gave the child medicine claiming to treat his eczema disease. The child, after consuming the medicine for 10 days, was down with extreme fever and fatigue. He was taken to the Thiruvananthapuram Children's Hospital after he fell unconscious.
The doctor, on suspicion, sent the medicine given by the medical imposter for lab test. In the test it was revealed the amount of mercury in it was 20 times more than what was allowed.
The medicine was given to the patients by a man who introduced himself as Laxman Raj, a Telangana native. All those who took his medicines have experienced severe health issues. He took Rs.5000 to Rs. 20,000 from the patients for his medicines.
He popularised his medicines among the public after providing it free of cost to a few local residents. As the incident came to light, Laxman Raj went missing. Following the complaint by the locals, Eroor police have taken up the case and started investigation.
