Hospital staff attempts to sexually abuse COVID patient in Kozhikode
Kozhikode: There are reports that a hospital staff attempted to sexually abuse a COVID patient here. The incident took place at Malabar Medical College hospital at Ulliyeri in Atholi on Sunday by 11 at night. Hospital staff identified as Ashwin tried to sexually assault a woman COVID patient.
The woman was admitted to the hospital on Thursday. Later, her parents also were admitted in the same hospital as they tested positive for COVID-19. The woman had requested the hospital authorities that her parents should be allowed to stay in the same room as her father is a heart patient.
She returned to her room after completing the procedures for the same. Since then, the accused staff started to annoy her. First, Ashwin collected the woman’s phone number from the hospital register and started sending vulgar messages to her WhatsApp. With this, the woman complained to the doctors and returned to her room.
Soon after this, Ashwin reached the room wearing PPE kit and asked the woman to consult the doctor. Then he took her to a deserted portion in the fourth floor of the hospital. Ashwin tried to misbehave with the lady in the lift. She panicked and ran through the staircase. But the path was blocked with furniture. Thus she managed to get into a lift and fled from the scene.
Atholi police recorded the statement of the woman the same day. They will again record a detailed statement on Monday.
