Gold smuggling: Customs to interrogate M Sivasankar again
Kochi: Customs officials will question again M Sivasankar, former principal secretary to Chief Minister, in the controversial diplomatic gold baggage smuggling case. Earlier, Sivasankar was grilled for hours by the probe team. It is learned that customs summoned the IAS official again for interrogation finding his statements unsatisfactory.
According to reports, Sivasankar will be grilled after questioning the accused Swapna Suresh in custody. Swapna’s NIA custody will expire on July 21. Hence, it is learned that Customs will get her custody after July 21.
Sivasankar had attended the parties organized by Swapna Suresh. It is reported that other accused in the case also attended these parties. It is assumed that the accused hatched the conspiracy during these parties.
Hence, customs officials are not convinced with Sivasankar’s statement rejecting his involvement in gold smuggling.
On Wednesday, Sivasankar was grilled for 9 hours by Customs at Thiruvananthapuram. Customs Commissioner will examine the copy of his statement in Kochi. Following this, Customs will question Swapna Suresh. It is reported that the gunman who attempted to commit suicide will be grilled by Customs in the case.
