Gold smuggling case: Sivasankar directed to book flat, reveals WhatsApp message
Kochi: Mathrubhumi News has accessed the WhatsApp message sent by former principal secretary M. Sivasankar directing to book a flat at Heather Tower.
Earlier, Sivasankar’s subordinate Arun Balachandran revealed that he booked a flat in Heather Tower as directed by the IAS official. Now, the WhatsApp message has confirmed Arun’s statement.
On May 27, Sivasankar had sent the WhatsApp message to Arun Balachandran. In the message, Sivasankar directed Arun to book a flat for six days from June 1 to 6 and requested him to arrange the flat at a discounted rate. He informed Arun that his friend needs the flat.
Now, the probe team has found that the conspiracy of the gold smuggling was hatched inside a flat at Heather Tower. Swapna’s husband and other accused in the case gathered at the flat later.
Arun told Mathrubhumi News that Sivasankar asked him to inquire about the rate of flats in Heather Tower. Following this, he inquired the same and informed Sivasankar. All these conversations took place via WhatsApp. He told the Heather Tower staff that the flat is for a friend of Sivasankar and asked to offer a discount.
However, Arun claimed that he did not book the room. "There is another staff member named Arun in Sivasankar's office. I don't know if he had booked the room. Rs 3,500-4,500 was asked as rent for the flat. Sivasankar had told me that the flat is for a friend's family and they wanted to stay there for three days before shifting to a new flat," Arun Balachandran said.
