Gold smuggling case: Sarith's phone trapped Swapna Suresh; cyber evidences more crucial
Thiruvananthapuram/Kochi: The Customs has found out that Sarith, the accused in the gold smuggling case, is also involved in similar cases earlier. A native of Thiruvallam, Sarith's house was examined by the Customs officers. They also found some documents from there.
Sarith used to visit the air cargo wing regularly to collect parcels for UAE consulate and was familiar with the officials in the airport. As he behaved decently, the officers also did not suspect him. However, when they stopped him from receiving the parcel, he shouted at them.
Sarith is not cooperating with the interrogation. Even after quizzing till afternoon, he did not give any clear answers. The questioning is led by joint customs commissioner and assistant commissioner. Sarith was produced before the Economic Offences Court judge and was remanded for 14 days.
Sarith was questioned based on the details collected from his phone, but he did not respond. The Customs found evidences of the relationship between Swapna Suresh and Sarith from his phone and retrieved their selfies also. They are trying to collect more cyber evidences from the phone. They will also check the messages exchanged between Sarith and Swapna.
