Ganja smugglers meet with road accident, one killed
Malappuram: A youth smuggling ganja to Ernakulam from Kasaragod was killed after his bike crashed into a goods lorry parked on the side of the road here.
The deceased is identified as Kasaragod Uppala native Rasheed Mazahin (26). His friend Jamal (23), also a natie of Uppala escaped with minor injuries. Jamal is undergoing treatment at the Ponnani Imbichibava Memorial Government Taluk Hospital.
The incident took place on Wednesday around 1.30 am at Palapetty on Ponnani-Chavakkad National Highway. Though the bike riders were taken to a private hospital in Thrissur immediately, Rasheed succumbed to his injuries on the way.
As Jamal suffered only minor injuries, he was shifted to the Ponnai Government Hospital. He is under police surveillance.
Police seized 3 kilograms of ganja from the bike. Rasheed and Jamal who have been selling fruits in Ernakulam, were also engaged in ganja sale, reported police.
Perumbadappu police informed that Rasheed’s body will be handed over to his relatives after obtaining a COVID-19 test result, completing inquest and other formalities.
