Kahangad: Two Youth Congress activists were hacked to death by a gang of people who arrived in a jeep, at Kallyott on Sunday night. Protesting against the murder, the Youth Congress has called for a statewide hartal on Monday from 6am to 6pm.
The deceased were identified as Sarath (27), Kripesh aka Kichu (21), natives of Koorankara. The Youth Congress alleged CPM behind the murders.
The incident occurred on Sunday around 8.30pm on Thannithodu-Koorankara near Kallyott. Sarath and Kripesh were going to Sarath’s house at Koorankara. As they reached near his house, a group of people in a jeep blocked their way and attacked them. Kripesh was hacked on his head.
The attackers fled the scene after attacking them. Later, bike travellers on this route saw a bike lying by the road and blood stains on the road. Soon, the locals who gathered at the spot rushed Sarath to hospital. He was unconscious. As they came to know that Kripesh was also with him, in a detailed search near the spot, Kripesh was found from a shrub 150 meter away, bleeding.
Bakel police who reached the spot took Kripesh to hospital but he succumbed to injuries before reaching Kasaragod general hospital. Sarath who was also seriously injured died while shifting to Mangaluru Unity Hospital.
Sarath is the son Satyanarayanan and was an active Youth congress activist. He was the mandalam president of Jawahar Balajanavedi, Pullur. Kripesh was the son of Krishnan and Balamani.
Earlier, 11 Youth Congress activists, including Sarath, were arrested for attacking Peethambaran, a CPM Periya local committee member. They were released from remand the other day.
UDF alleged that CPM is behind the attack. However, CPM has denied their involvement.
UDF Chairman MC Khamadidheen said that CPM is trying to sabotage the election campaign activities of UDF through violence. With will be dealt with calmly by the UDF, he added.
CPM Kasaragod district secretary MV Balakrishnan Master said that CPM has no links to the violent incident that took place in the district on Sunday.
