Excise team seizes 1.2 kg gold smuggled in condoms
Palakkad: Two were arrested for smuggling 1.2 kg gold in semi-solid jelly-like form packed in condoms from Kanjikode on Thursday. The smugglers have been identified as Abdul Jaseer (26), a native of Wayanad and Ajnas (25), a native of Thamarassery. The two were nabbed during a vehicle inspection by Palakkad Excise Special Squad on the Walayar-Palakkad national highway.
Excise officials said that Abdul Jaseer brought the gold to Tiruchirappalli airport from Sharjah and he was transporting it to Kozhikode in a car with the help of Ajnas.
The gold in jelly-like form was packed in condoms in the shape of bullets. They were kept in the inner wears, explained officials.
It is not clear, for whom they smuggled the gold. During the interrogation, the two confessed that they had smuggled gold before also. Rs 1 lakh and a mobile phone is the remuneration they get for smuggling gold for a single time. Phone will be abandoned after single use, said excise officers.
For further investigation, Abdul Jaseer and Ajnas were handed over to Palakkad Customs Preventive Division along with the seized gold.
